The Resona Group formulated Group Environmental Policies in 2008. The Group's corporate officers and employees are individually taking steps to preserve the global environment in recognition of the importance of acting locally on the individual level.

Group Environmental Policies

The Resona Group has created the Environment Subcommittee within the Group CSR Committee, and it is cross-divisionally studying ways to work at solving environmental problems. In April 2008, the Group clarified its stance on efforts for the environment by establishing Group Environmental Policies, for the purpose of fulfilling its social corporate responsibility to appropriately implement environmentally friendly corporate activities.
Each official and employee of the Group is working on the protection of global environments while recognizing what they can do as a member of a local society.

    We abide by laws relating to environmental preservation and to other requirements that we have subscribed.
  • Environmental Preservation through Our Core Business
    We support environmental preservation activities by developing and providing environment conscious products and services.
  • Environmental Load Reduction in Our Offices
    We work toward reducing the environmental load through resource-and energy-saving activities in our offices.
  • Environmental Communication
    We take active measures to communicate environment-related information inside and outside of the Group and promote environmental education activities.
  • In-house Education and Full Participation
    We ensure that all Group executives and employees are familiar with our environmental policies, and that all executives and employees act in an environmentally-responsible manner.
  • Public Disclosure of Environmental Policies
    We disclose our environmental policies to all parties.

Supporting corporate and retail customers' environmental protection activities through the core banking business

The Resona Group offers a variety of products and services to help protect the global environment as a financial services company. For example, the Group provides funding support and consulting services to small and medium-sized enterprises actively engaged in environmental protection. The Group also offers home loans with reduced interest rates to customers purchasing green housing and sells socially responsible investment (SRI) funds that invest in companies that contribute to environmental protection.

Broadly communicating about the environment through bank staff and seminars

The Resona Group participates in the Ministry of the Environment's Eco-Action-Point Program, which awards points to consumers for purchasing eco-friendly products or services. The program broadly promotes increased availability of environmentally conscious consumer choices, even with respect to banking.
The Resona Group also hosts seminars on environmental protection, screenings of environmental films, and in-branch environmental events on an ongoing basis.

Raising employees' individual awareness through activities to reduce their own workplaces' load on environment

The Resona Group participates in the Team Minus 6% program. Through this program, Resona Group corporate officers and employees individually take action to preserve the global environment through such means as reducing electric power and paper consumption and volunteering for environmental causes.
Additionally, Kinki Osaka Bank (in October 2008) and Saitama Resona Bank (in December 2008) have obtained certification of compliance with the ISO 14001 international environmental management standard. Resona Bank is also in the process of obtaining ISO 14001 certification.
